Bio
An NCCP level 3 certified volleyball coach, Michelle has extensive experience in coaching and leadership within sport. She was at the helm of the former STFX women’s volleyball team for five seasons (2005-11), earning AUS coach of the year honours in 2009. She was the head coach of the 2001 Nova Scotia Canada Games women’s volleyball team, leading them to a sixth-place finish. She also served as an assistant coach in 2013.
In addition to her Canada Games and AUS experience, Michelle was an assistant coach with Canada’s U20 women’s national team in 2008 and head of delegation for Team Canada at the NORCECA Volleyball Championships that same year.
No stranger to Dalhousie, Michelle earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Business Administration while playing four seasons with the Tigers women’s volleyball team. A two-time AUS all-star and a four-time Academic All-Canadian, she helped lead the Tigers to two AUS championship titles. Michelle also served as an assistant coach for the program between 2002-04.
Michelle also has a lot of experience at the club level, leading many teams to national championships over the years and served as Executive Director with Volleyball Nova Scotia for two years and before serving on their board of directors including a four-year stint as president.
She also served as Nova Scotia’s assistant chef de mission at the 2015, 2017 and 2019 Canada Games and currently holds the position of Managing Director of Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity with the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism & Heritage with the Province of Nova Scotia.
