Volleyballers win first match of AUS league tournament

MONCTON – Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (2-4) won a second game this season, 3-1 against the Acadia University Axewomen (2-4) in an Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball game on Friday evening at the CEPS. 

Moncton won 25-12, 13-25, 25-23 and 25-21. Chrsitelle Bertin was chosen as Subway player of the game. Bertin had 9 kills, 35 attacks and 12 digs for the Blue and Gold. Pascale Doiron added 11 kills and 40 attacks. Kailey Evans had 30 digs for the Axewomen. 

Dalhousie University Tigers (6-0) faced a tough opposition, but did get by the Memorial University Sea-Hawks (4-1), 3-0, Friday afternoon. The Tigers were 25-12, 25-20 and 25-21 winners. Sarah Dawe had 8 kills and 5 digs for Memorial. Julie Moore registered 13 kills and 12 digs for the Tigers. 

The Saint Mary's University Huskies (3-2) were 3-0 winners over the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds (0-6), in the first match of the day. The Huskies won 25-23, 25-22 and 28-26. Erin Smith had 12 kills for the Huskies and Maddie Clarke, 14 digs. Kristen Burns registered 15 kills for UNB and Kelsey Bond, 10 digs. 

The AUS tournament has games today (Saturday) from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, from 12 noon till 4 p.m. in the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud gymnasium.
