Tigers defeat Capers 3-0

Tigers defeat Capers 3-0

The Tigers improved to 3-6 with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-19) victory over the Cape Breton Capers Sunday afternoon at the Dalplex. The Tigers remain in fourth place in the AUS with the win, while the Capers stay in seventh place as they drop to 0-8 on the season. The Capers winless streak also extended to 24 games, as they last won against the StFX X-Women on February 8, 2013.

After taking the first set 25-18, the Tigers went on an absolute tear to start the second set as they jumped out to a 12-2 lead after Abby Czenze had two straight service aces. The Capers came storming back and made it a 18-15 game. The comeback would end up falling short, however, and Alexandra Hudson finished things off for the Tigers as they won 25-20.

The Capers jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the third set and showed some signs of life, but the Tigers went on a 9-3 run and held for a 25-19 third set victory as they won the game in straight sets.

Anna Dunn-Suen had nine kills to lead the Tigers, while Mieke Dumont and Alexandra Hudson each added six of their own. Marisa Mota had a game-high 13 digs in the win.

Janette Simmonds had a team-high kills for the Capers in the loss, while Brooklyn Hamilton had five. Katherine Roberge had a great game defensively and she had 11 digs.

The Capers will look to get into the win column when they face the Saint Mary's Huskies next Saturday at 7:00pm. This was the final game of 2014 for the Tigers, who won't hit the court again until January 11 when they face the Acadia Axewomen.
