UNB come back from behind to top Dalhousie 3-1

The UNB Varsity Reds women's volleyball team bounced back after a first set loss to beat the Dalhousie Tigers 3-1 (12-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16).

The first set began as a back-and-forth, but the Tigers would find their momentum and pull away, taking the set 25-11 and giving the Reds little chance to make a comeback.

The second was much like the first, going back-and-forth. A kill by Victoria Eagle tied it up 9-9. Libero Maggie McLenahan came in with a hit off a beautiful rally, paired with three service aces by Paige Paulsen, and the V-Reds had their first lead.

"I take every game differently," said Paulsen, who had 41 of UNB's 44 assists.

"Try to do my best, help others do their best, so I just take it as it comes."

Dalhousie inched closer, but the V-Reds would win the second 25-20.

The third set was nothing but red; the Tigers wouldn't even break into the 20's and fell 25-17.

The fourth and final set of the game showed a strong pairing of teams with the score never straying from a 2-3 point difference. Jacqueline Sebetovsky with strong blocking, a few more hits, a miscall by a Tiger about the ball being inbounds and a big block would be the final moments of the game and get the V-Reds the 25 points they needed.

Paulsen said she is excited to match up against Dalhousie again, and knows it will be neck-and-neck all season.

The Varsity Reds play their next game on Sunday, November 2, when they host Acadia at 3pm.

The Dalhousie Tigers travel to play Moncton at 2pm on Sunday, November 2.
