Balanced attack leads Tigers past Aigles Bleues 3-0

The Dalhousie Tigers improved to 3-1 on the season as they defeated the University of Moncton Aigles Bleues 3-0 Friday night at the Dalplex.

The Tigers got out to an early lead over Moncton in the first set and never looked back, with Abby Czenze seemingly getting a hand on every Tiger point. After the Tigers got up 22-13, the Aigles Bleues rattled off three straight points and seemed like they were going to get on a roll, but the Tigers came back to win the set 25-17.

Desiree Nouwen, the AUS leader in kills, continued her strong freshman campaign, finishing with ten digs and ten points.

The second set started out with tight, back and forth action. The Aigles Bleues only trailed by two until the Tigers went on a 7-3 run, opening the set up to 16-10. Moncton couldn't seem to put a rally together and the Tigers won the second set 25-17.

Not wanting to go home early, Moncton tightened up their defense and the third and final set was intense to say the least. Neither team could gain an inch on the other, and neither team held a lead bigger than two until the Tigers went up 21-17. Moncton put on the pressure and cut the lead to one. The Tigers looked like they were about to finish the game when they held a 24-22 lead, but the Aigles Bleues had other plans. The game was tied at 24-24, but a Marlee Powers kill sealed the deal for the Tigers, 26-24.

Maggie Li led the way for the Tigers with 12 points and 8 kills. Genevieve LeBlanc had nine kills for Moncton, who now sit fifth in the AUS with a 2-6 record.

The Tigers are back in action Saturday at the Dalplex when they take on UNB at 12:00pm.
