Sea-Hawks top Tigers 65-56

The Dalhousie Tigers hosted the Memorial Sea-Hawks in both team's first regular season action of 2023 on Saturday night at Dalplex. Memorial came away with a 65-56 win.

The Tigers came out of the gate strong, getting up to a 19-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Balanced scoring from Memorial saw all their starter register points. Katie Wuotila (Calgary, AB) led the Tigers with 7 points going 3-for-4 from the floor. Mercy Olugu (Halifax, NS) and Katie Crombeen (Calgary, AB) grabbed two rebound each.

Dalhousie extended their lead in the second quarter, with strong play from Wuotila. Memorial's Ines Salat Margarit (Barcelona, Spain) found her shooting form draining a team high 9 points in the second quarter.

Halftime came at the wrong time for the Tigers, with their shooting going cold in the second 20 minutes, only scoring 28 points in the whole second half. Memorial's Alana Short (Barrie, ON) scored 16 of her 23 points in the second half. The game remained close until the last few minutes when Dalhousie ran out of gas and Memorial earned a 65-56 win.

Wuotlia had a team high 13 points and 6 rebounds and Olugu pulled down a game high 12 rebounds. 

Memorial's Margarit with 16 points and 4 rebounds, earned Subway Player of the Game honours in the win.

With the win Memorial are now 6-3 while the Tigers fall to 1-9. The teams return to the court at Dalplex on Sunday for game two of the weekend. Tipoff is set for 12pm.
