Tigers fall 74-59 to the Capers

(Halifax, NS) On Friday night at the Dalplex the Cape Breton Capers got the best of the Dalhousie Tigers with a 74-59 win in AUS women's basketball action. Alison Keough led the way for the Capers with a double-double (16pts, 11reb).

Dalhousie was without their leading scorer Tessa Stammberger who was forced to sit this one out due to injury. Ainsley MacIntyre and Diedre Alexander picked up the slack offensively with 20 and 13 points respectively.

The Dalhousie Tigers came out firing gaining a12-2 lead in the opening minutes of the game. Ainsley MacIntyre led the early run with 6 points and 2 assists.

Cape Breton fought their way back into the game as Madison Munro tied things up at 16-16 in the final seconds of the first quarter.

The Capers took their first lead of the game at 20-18 after Adrianna Beck hit a long jump shot. The Tigers came right back as Sophie Gaube nailed the first three-pointer of the game knotting things up at 23-23.

Natasha Roach made a nice move to the basket after forcing a turnover with a full court press. The basket put the Capers up 30-27.

Sarah Reston-Thomas made a buzzer beater giving the Tigers a 33-32 lead at the half.

MacIntyre knotted the game up at 42-42 halfway through the third quarter after hitting back-to-back three balls.

The Capers slightly edged out the Tigers in the back-and-forth third quarter as they took a 50-48 lead into the fourth.

Cape Breton started off the fourth quarter strong with an 8-0 run stretching their lead to 58-48. The Tigers struggled offensively not registering a field goal in the first four minutes of the quarter.

It was all Capers in the final stages of the game as they managed to close this one out 74-59.

The Tigers (6-11) will travel to Saint Mary's (14-1) on Wednesday, February 17 while the Capers (11-5) will play Huskies tomorrow night.
