Tigers top Sea-Hawks in tight game

(St. John's, NL) – The Dalhousie Tigers defeated the Memorial Sea-­Hawks 62-­55 on Saturday evening in AUS women's basketball at the Field House. This was the third match-up of the season between the two teams. Dalhousie has now won all three.

In the opening quarter it was the Tigers on the board first, maintaining a lead over the home team and finishing the first up 17-­15. In the second quarter the Tigers got hot and won the quarter by a score of 18-­7 and went into the half up 13 points.

In the third quarter the Sea-­Hawks turned up the pressure and forced the Tigers guards into multiple turnovers. The Sea-­Hawks won the quarter 22-­10 and were right back into the game, down only one point going into the final frame.

The Tigers settled in down the stretch and extended their lead to five points early in the final frame. Dalhousie finished the game with a six point win, despite a strong effort from the home side.

The Tigers were led by Ainsley MacIntyre with 19 points and seven rebounds and was named Subway AUS Player of the Game. Tessa Stammberger was close behind with 16 points and seven rebounds.  

Memorial drops to 1-­14 on the season while Dalhousie improves to 6-­9.

Both teams will be back on the court Sunday for their second game of the doubleheader series at 11am.
