Tigers Take 64-62 Win Over Sea-Hawks With Seconds to Go

On Saturday, November 14, the Dalhousie Tigers and the Memorial Sea-Hawks took the Dalplex court for their second game of the weekend. Dalhousie finished with the win in the last seconds at a score of 64-62 over Memorial.

In the first quarter, the teams came out hesitant on both sides. A few minutes into the game, the Tigers found their groove and put some points on the board. The Tigers maintained a strong defence and capitalized on the majority of their offensive plays which brought them 24 points in the first quarter. Memorial scored half as many points in the first quarter which finished at 24-12 for the Tigers.

Memorial's Rebecca Amo-Mensah (Toronto, ON) created many opportunities for the Sea-hawks starting off the second quarter. Dalhousie's Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, NB) made a great layup after dribbling past two Memorial players for the shot. The Sea-Hawks Katherine Vanden Elzen (Mount Brydges, ON) finished the first half with a two pointer layup off of a strong offensive play which earned the team an extra two points heading into the second half. The first half finished with the Tigers in the lead at 31-21.

The third quarter picked up the game's intensity for the rest of the game. With four minutes left in the quarter, the Sea-Hawks had already added 20 points to their score since the half. This brought them into the lead for the first time in the game. Memorial maintained their lead with some major points coming from Sydney Stewart (Sarnia, ON). The third quarter finished with Memorial in the lead at 50-43 over Dalhousie.

Diedre Alexander took back the lead with 4 minutes left in the fourth by scoring a great three pointer for the Tigers. With one minute left in the fourth quarter of the game, tension was high on the court with Dalhousie in a one point lead over Memorial at a score of 61-60. Memorial's Stewart tied up the score with 23 seconds to go. Dierdre scored the game winning layup with one second on the clock, finishing the game at 64-62 for Dalhousie over Memorial.

Dalhousie's player of the game was  Ainsley MacIntyre who was tied with Tessa Stammberger for most points on the Tigers' side with 13 each. Memorial's Sydney Stewart held the most points for the game with 22 overall. Stammberger led rebounds for the game with 10 overall.

Dalhousie's (3-1) next game will be on Wednesday, November 18th against Saint Mary's (2-0). Memorial (0-4) will play again on Saturday, November 21 against UNB (1-1).
