Dalhousie loses 72-48 to Alberta

The last day of the Lawtons Centennial tournament took place at the Dalplex on Sunday,  October 18. The Dalhousie Tigers faced the Alberta Pandas in the last game of the tournament and came away with a final score of 72-48 for the Pandas.

Entering the first quarter, the Pandas took the lead, but gave it up to the Tigers which ended with a score of 11-10 going into the second quarter.  Right from the start of the second quarter, the Pandas came to take back their lead. The score was 29-21 for Alberta going into the second half.

Entering the second half, the Tigers managed to capitalize on some counter attacks and bring the score to within a 6 point range. The Pandas stopped their best attempts and maintained their lead through the entire third quarter which finished at a score of 52-37 for Alberta.

The fourth and final quarter hled lots of chances for both sides, but Alberta managed to capitalize on most of their plays and keep their lead. The final score of the game finished at 72-48 and with a win for the Pandas.

Player of the game for the Pandas was Jessilyn Fairbanks and player of the game for the Tigers was Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, NB) Tournament all-star for Alberta was Megan Wickstrom and for Dalhousie was Tessa Stammberger (Halifax, NS).

Earlier that morning, the Capers and the Lakers took the court for an intense game that took quite the turn at half. Nipissing had a 14 point lead at the end of the second quarter, but in the second half alone, Cape Breton added another 52 points to their score which brought the game to an end at 70-49 for the Capers.Nipissing's Claire Abbott (Whitehorse, YK) led the scoring once more with 15 points in her 32 minutes of play.  On the Capers' side, Colleen Keane,  Valentina Primossi, and Hannah Brown had 12 points each for the game.

The StFX X-Women and the Saint Mary's Huskies took the court at noon and finished the game with a final score of 71-50 for the Huskies. Once again, Lindsay Lessard (Waterloo, ON) of StFX led the scoring for the X-Women and teammate Kimberley Taylor (Toronto, ON) had the most rebounds for the team with 8. The Huskies managed to maintain their lead throughout every quarter with special mention to Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse (Montreal, QC) who led the scoring for the game at 18 points. Laura Langille (Bedford, NS) of the Huskies had 9 rebounds which was the most in the game.
