First Year Feature - Men's Soccer
Introducing this week's first year feature Mo Tolba from the men's soccer team!
The transition from high school to university athletics is significant. We’re highlighting first year athletes from all varsity teams this season who are on the path to achieving greatness here at Dalhousie University.
This week we would like to introduce Mo Tolba, a first year player on the men's soccer team. Hailing from Stellarton, Nova Scotia, Mo is studying medical sciences.
How long have you been playing soccer?
I have been playing soccer for 13 years.
How did you start playing soccer or get into it?
My dad used to take me out to the soccer field behind our house and taught me the game and I would always go watch him play as a kid in his senior league.
Did you play any other sports growing up?
Yes, I also enjoyed playing basketball.
Who is somebody in soccer you admired growing up and why?
Lionel Messi because I’ve modelled my game after him and Cesc Fabregas because he was the first player whose jersey I owned.
What is the most memorable moment in your career so far?
Representing the U21 Halifax Wanderers in this year’s summer series.
What made you choose Dalhousie University?
A terrific academic school with lots of notoriety and a great team with a great coach destined to achieve big things.
Did any of your family members attend Dalhousie University?
My father attended Dalhousie for a brief period on his way to becoming a doctor.
How has the transition from high school sports to university sports been for you so far?
It’s been everything I expected, a much more physical game with lots of talent but I feel like I’ve adjusted well.
How do you balance academics and sports?
I try to manage my time as best as possible and not procrastinate i.e. get things done as soon as possible.
What are some of your interests outside of sports?
I enjoy cooking and spending time with friends and family.
Any pre-event superstitions/routines?
I always say a prayer before the start of every game as nothing is possible without God.
