Capers beat Tigers 1-0
The Cape Breton Capers beat the Tigers in a heated match at Wickwire field.
A total of thirty fouls, eleven yellow cards, and a red card in a heated grudge match between the Dalhousie Tigers and the Cape Breton Capers ended with the Tigers falling in defeat.
The Dalhousie Tigers (5-3-2) faced the Cape Breton Capers (4-6-0) at a filled Wickwire Field.
The first half was intense. The Tigers and Capers were unable to find the back of the net. What the match lacked in scoring was replaced with physicality. The Tigers had eleven fouls, the Capers had six.
In the 1' minute, Dal's Sinclair Astridge (Victoria, BC) made a save on BCU's Joe Mac's up-close shot, which was either team's best chance of the half.
Offensively there was little progress for the Tigers and Capers. Both teams had one shot on goal. CBU had three strong crosses that found no recipient, CBU got more corner kicks, shots, and possession, but Dalhousie showcased a composed defence.
In the second half, at the 46' minute, Dal won a goal off of a CBU corner-kick. CBU's Mateo Goldzstein was given the goal (Winnipeg, MB).
The second half was extremely aggressive. Players were trash-talking and there were numerous hard fouls (and some acting). Dal had seven yellow cards by the end of the match, and CBU had four. A total of thirty fouls were committed, seventeen by the Tigers, and thirteen by the Capers. A fight broke out in the 72' minute, resulting in a red card. The red card was given to Dal's Andrew Chen (Vancouver, BC) for a push to the back.
Dal's Astridge made an incredible save in a one-on-one situation in the 85' minute to keep the game within one.
The Tigers started to pressure CBU's defence in the last minutes, but continuous stoppage of play and insufficient time left the Tigers disappointed. Dal's Jack Ellis (Liverpool, ENG) was inches away from the tying goal, a header from a cross in extra-time, but it hit the post.
UBC grinds out the 1-0 victory in a physical match against Dalhousie.
