The Dalhousie Tigers outlast the UNB REDS to win 5-2 on Saturday night at Wickwire Field.
The game started franticly with both teams playing with lots of intensity. Mohammed Wahdan (Daraa, Syria) opened the scoring for the Tigers in the 6' minute off a penalty kick. The REDS walked back up the pitch on the restart and leveled the score when a Stefano D'Ambrogio (Toronto, ON) through ball in the Tigers box was not dealt with. UNB's Jackson Purbs (Welland, ON) tapped the ball in at the back post.
On the stroke of halftime, Dalhousie's Ben Thompson (Hammonds Plains, NS) put the Tigers up 2-1 heading into the locker room.
The Tigers came out in the second half flying. Wilfreid Kindo (Burkina Faso, BFA) made the back post run on a corner kick and got up above the crowd to nod the ball home.
Five minutes later Mohammed Tolba (Stelleraton, NS) extended the Tigers lead to make it 4-1.
With 10 minutes left in the game, UNB came to life when D'Ambrogio pulled one back for the REDS. Sensing another possible comeback for the REDS, they continued to press the Tigers hoping to level it up. It was not meant to be however as Mykeo Parker-Christmas (Halifax, NS) sprinted the length of the field and slipped one past the REDS keeper dashing all hopes for a comeback. Tigers won 5-2.
The game continued at its aggressive pace the whole time with a total of 6 yellow cards handed out to the teams.
Kyle Routledge (Halifax, NS) was named player of the game for the Tigers for his relentless play in the midfield.
The REDS return to the field on October 5 when they head to Sackville, New Brunswick to face the Mounties. The Tigers head to UPEI also on October 5 to face the Panthers. Both games kick off at 3:15pm AT.
