Berryman named player of the game in tie

[HALIFAX NS] –The Dalhousie Tigers tied the Acadia Axeman 2-2 on Sunday afternoon at Wickwire Field in a pivotal match for both teams.

Going into today's game, both teams are fighting for a playoff spot as the middle of the standings are separated by mere points.

The intensity was high right from the first whistle. Both teams made the ball do the work and forced their respective goalies to respond to an abundance of shots.

It only took Acadia two minutes to find their way onto the scoresheet as Anderson Peters (Rothesay, NB) scored the first goal of the game.

Dalhousie's Ben Thompson (Hammonds Plains, NS) tried to respond in the 21st minute but was denied at the spot from an important save by Dylan Legere (Upper, Tantallon, NS).

Acadia continued to press Dalhousie's back line and in the 38th minute, a shot by Peters was initially saved by Sinclair Astridge (Victoria, BC) but AJ Magamura (Wolfville, NS) found the back of the net regardless.

In the second half, the stakes were evident in the way both the Tigers and Axeman played – two teams who fought to try and secure a playoff spot.

The Tigers were the ones to put the pressure on from a shot by Luke Berryman (Halifax, NS) on the left side of the 18-yard box that crossed to hit the right post and eventually found the feet of Kyle Routledge (Halifax, NS), to make the game 2-1 in the 57th minute.

A few minutes later in the 61st minute, a good build up from Dalhousie was rewarded by a goal for Berryman who was honoured with of player of the match.

The rest of the second half remained scoreless despite the dynamic display provided by both the Axeman and the Tigers.

Both teams will be finishing off the regular season on the road. Dalhousie will travel to UPEI next Saturday at 5:15 pm whereas Acadia will travel to Memorial University to play back-to-back games next Friday and Saturday, both at 6:45 pm AT.
