Tigers fall to Huskies, 2-0

(Halifax, N.S.) - The ninth-placed Dalhousie Tigers welcomed the sixth-placed Saint Mary's Huskies to Wickwire Field Thursday night, and the Huskies took down their cross-town rival 2-0.

At the 17th minute, after DAL gave the ball away, SMU's Sean Freeman (Halifax, N.S.) pounced on the mistake and fed it across to Colby Mercer (Beaverbank, N.S.) who silenced the Dalhousie crowd early.

The Saint Mary's duo of Freeman and Mercer would be electric all night.

DAL nearly put in the equaliser off of a free kick that went over one attackers head but landed on Connor Manuel's foot, but he just missed the net.

When the whistle blew for halftime it was a 1-0 Saint Mary's lead.

SMU nearly struck again right after halftime off of a cross, but DAL's defenders stood up to the task.

Freeman, after weaving his way around the DAL defenders, sent a prayer into the box that ended up in a scramble, and would eventually be put in the back of the net by Mercer again.

In what looked like a sure goal, Freeman sent a great ball through the DAL defenders up to Jalen Loague (London, Ont.), who was alone on a breakaway, but out of nowhere DAL's keeper Emmet Workman (Halifax, NS) made a miraculous save to keep it a 2-0 game.

Despite Workman's efforts, Saint Mary's would take the win 2-0.

SMU's Colby Mercer was named the player of the game in the win.

Dalhousie will play this Saturday against STFX at 3:15pm and the Huskies will meet the six-straight champions, Cape Breton University, on Sunday.
