(HALIFAX, N.S.) The Dalhousie Tigers raced to a first-place women's team finish at the 2018 Subway AUS Cross Country Championships Saturday afternoon. The StFX X-Men claimed the men's title.
The championships were hosted by Dalhousie University at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax, N.S.
WOMEN'S RACE RESULTS
In the women's 8km race, the Tigers claimed two individual medals and three of the top four finishers.
Dalhousie senior Michelle Reddy captured first-place honours with a time of 29:23.21.
Second-year Tiger Savanna Jordan (Calgary, Alta.) was the women's silver medallist, finishing with a time of 29:56.81.
Katie Robinson (Saint John, N.B.), a senior runner with the Acadia Axewomen, captured bronze with a time of 30:14.69.
Dalhousie's Sophia Watts finished fourth with a time of 30:36.83.
This marks Dalhousie's 25th AUS women's cross country banner win and their sixth consecutive year claiming the title. They finished with 37 team points.
The StFX X-Women earned a second-place team finish with four runners in the top 10. Hana Marmura (Antigonish, N.S.) finished sixth with a time of 30:51.85, Zoe Johnston (Pembroke, Ont.) came in eighth with a time of 31:08.10, Rachel MacDougall (Antigonish, N.S.) claimed ninth finishing in 31:13.43, and Jane Hergett (Port Williams, N.S.) rounded out the top 10, posting a time of 31:13.45.
The X-Women finished with a team score of 45.
The Acadia Axewomen claimed team bronze, with a team score of 74. They had two top 10 finishers—bronze medallist Robinson, and Madalyn Higgins (Halifax, N.S.) who finished seventh with a time of 31:03.37.
Moncton's Carol-Ann MacDonald (Irishtown, N.B.) finished in fifth place with a time of 30:43.43.
Moncton earned a fourth-place team finish with 144 points, closely followed by UNB in fifth with 146 points, Saint Mary's in sixth with 152, UPEI in seventh with 159 and St. Thomas in eighth with 231.
MEN'S RACE RESULTS
In the men's 10km race, the StFX X-Men are back on top, claiming team gold with 38 points. Last season, the Dalhousie Tigers snapped StFX's six-year win streak to claim their first men's cross country title since 2010.
At this year's championship, X-Men made up three of the top four finishers.
Angus Rawling (Calgary, Alta.) from the StFX X-Men captured his second consecutive AUS championship gold medal with a time of 31:33.23.
StFX senior Alex Neuffer (Stratford, P.E.I.) claimed individual bronze with a time of 32:24.29 and Paul MacLellan (Antigonish, N.S.) from the X-Men claimed fourth with a time of 32:47.91.
Second-year Saint Mary's runner Andrew Peverill (Sackville, N.S.) was the men's silver medallist, finishing in 31:53.89.
The defending championship and host Tigers team followed closely behind the X-Men with 46 points to claim team silver.
The Tigers had three top 10 finishers. James Cromack (Caledon, Ont.) finished sixth in 33:09.89, Bryn Smith (Hampshire, United Kingdom) finished eighth with a time of 33:17.29, and Callum Drever (Calgary, Alta.) placed ninth posting a time of 33:17.68.
The UNB Reds earned team bronze with 79 points. They had two finishers in the top 10—Michael Colford (New Maryland, N.B.) who claimed fifth place in a time of 33:03.88, and Isaac Cull (Pubnico, N.S.) who finished seventh in 33:13.35.
Memorial's Levi Moulton rounded out the top 10, finishing in a time of 33:22.86.
The Saint Mary's Huskies earned a fourth-place team finish with 100 points, followed closely by Memorial with 107. The UPEI Panthers claimed sixth with 154 team points, and the Moncton Aigles Bleus finished seventh with 188.
AUS MAJOR AWARD WINNERS AND ALL-STARS
Following the races, participants attended an awards luncheon at the Four Points by Sheraton in Halifax. AUS all-star awards were presented to the top seven finishers in each race, and individual medals, team medals and the AUS championship banners and trophies were handed out.
AUS ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARDS
The AUS athletes of the year were awarded to the individual AUS champions, Michelle Reddy (Sarnia, Ont.) from Dalhousie and Angus Rawling (Calgary, Alta.) from the StFX X-Men.
AUS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARDS
The winners of the AUS rookie of the year awards were Bhreagh Burke of the Saint Mary's Huskies who finished in 11th place with a time of 31:21.17 and Bryn Smith (Hampshire, United Kingdom) of the Dalhousie Tigers who finished eighth in 33:17.29.
AUS STUDENT-ATHLETE COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS
UPEI's Emma Moore (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) and Dalhousie's Angus MacIntosh (Riverview, N.B.) were honoured as the AUS Student-Athlete Community Service award winners.
Moore, a fourth-year biology student, finished 23rd in today's championship with a time of 32:58.10.
Accomplished in the classroom, she is a three-time U SPORTS academic all-Canadian, on pace to repeat this accomplishment for a fourth time this year.
Her 4.3 GPA has earned her a spot on the Dean's list in each of her years of study. She is a two-time recipient of an undergraduate research grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). She is also a McCains group scholarship winner and a recipient of the UPEI Leaders of Tomorrow scholarship.
Moore was also recently awarded a Crohn's and Colitis Canada Scholarship—one of 10 awarded nationwide.
Diagnosed with Crohn's disease herself, Moore has become an advocate for others living with the condition. She is involved with the Go Here campaign in Charlottetown, soliciting local businesses to advertise a "Go Here" sticker on their windows, to indicate to Crohn's sufferers that their washroom is available if needed.
Moore also volunteers her time in the physical therapy department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and serves as a Go Girls mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Dalhousie's MacIntosh is a fifth-year engineering student from Riverview, N.B. He finished in 13th place in today's championship race with a time of 33:29.40.
MacIntosh is a four-time U SPORTS academic all-Canadian boasting a 4.18 GPA, on pace to repeat this accomplishment for a fifth time this season.
He is heavily involved in the community, volunteering his time with a number of initiatives. He is a volunteer coach with HaliFAST and the Halifax Junior Road Hammers.
MacIntosh volunteers for Dalhousie's Special Tigers program, the Light the Night walk and the ALS Awareness Campaign. He also serves as VP Varsity Relations for the Dalhousie Varsity Council, VP Logistics of the Dalhousie Industrial Engineering Society and co-chair of Dalhousie's delegation for the Institute of Industrial and System Engineers.
AUS COACH OF THE YEAR
Dalhousie's Rich Lehman was named AUS women's cross country coach of the year. This is his sixth consecutive time winning the award.
Today's win mark Dalhousie's sixth consecutive AUS women's cross country banner (25th all-time).
In his first season at the helm of the X-Men program, Eric Gillis has been named the AUS men's cross country coach of the year.
StFX last won the men's banner in 2016. This is their 10th AUS title in school history.

The U SPORTS national championship meet will take place Saturday, Nov. 10 at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont.
