Men's cross country win third AUS title

Antigonish, NS – The StFX X-Women and the Dalhousie Tigers men's team ran to top honors at the StFX Invitational meet held on the campus of StFX University Saturday afternoon. 

The X-Women, with six runners in the top ten, claimed first place with 20 points on the day. The Acadia Axewomen were second with 50 points and the Dalhousie Tigers, with 65, placed third. UNB (116), Saint Mary's (133) and Moncton (159) rounded out the women's team placings. 

Axewomen runner Katie Robinson was the individual race winner, winning the sprint to the finish line over Catherine Thompson of StFX. Robinson's race-winning time in the 6k event was 22:25 while Thompson clocked in at 23:28. X-Women teammate Liz MacDonald came in third place, also at 23:28, amidst the field of 56 runners. The top Tiger finisher for the women was Sarah Kromberg who crossed the line in 11th place.

The men's 10k race featured a smaller field of 36 competitors with the Dalhousie Tigers just edging out the StFX X-Men for first place with 30 points to the X-Men's 31. UPEI placed third overall with 74 points on the day and Saint Mary's (89) came fourth. 

The top three AUS runners were Angus Rawling and Alex Neuffer, both of the host X-Men, placing first and second with times of 26:15 and 26:16, respectively. Dalhousie's Mike Rogers was third at 26:32. Tigers runners placed third through sixth places to claim the team title. 

Three-time Olympian, X-Men alumnus and current StFX assistant coach Eric Gillis paced the field of AUS runners, running a 26:16 race as he pushed Rawling to a finish line sprint. 

The StFX Invitational marked the final race on the AUS regular season circuit. The Subway AUS Championship will be held at Acadia University in Wolfville, NS on Saturday, October 28th. The women's 8k race is slated for 12:00 pm, followed by the men's 10k race at 12:45 pm.
