Undefeated Tigers win 3-0 against Acadia

The Dalhousie Tigers add another win to their perfect record this season with a 3-0 win over the Acadia Axewomen on Sunday October 30. This win was the final battle of the 2016 AUS women's volleyball league tournament and gave Dalhousie a perfect 5-0 record to start the season. The Axewomen now have four losses on the season with a current record of 1-4.

Acadia came out strong in the first set as they locked in a quick two points and set the tone for the match.

The lead did not last long for the Axewomen though as Courtney Baker showed some authority with a solid smash to get the Tigers on the score board.

Not long after, Axewomen player Fiona McGuinty had an excellent ace that sparked a Tigers timeout. At this point in the game the score was 7-5 ACA.

The first set would play out to display some exciting back and forth action as both teams consistently stole the lead from one another.

Near the end of the quarter, the Axewomen had a promising two-point lead over the Tigers, 23-21. The Tigers showed some heart to close out the first quarter as they scored four consecutive points on the Axewomen and took the set by a score of 25-23.

The second set followed the theme of the game as both teams displayed some continuous see saw action. The Tigers would pull ahead 20-17 near the end of the set which caused Acadia head coach Michelle Wood to call a time out. This time out did not spark the Axewomen as they only tallied one more point in the set. The Tigers would close out the set by a score of 25-18

The Tigers held the lead for the majority of the third set. They allowed the Axewomen to sneak in the odd point but it was never enough for them to regain the lead. Dalhousie concluded the match with a third set score of 25-21.

The Subway player of the game was Tigers player Marisa Mota (Kitchener, ON).

The point leader for the Dalhousie Tigers was Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, NS). Baker had a total of 18 points with 15 kills and 10 digs.

Sarah Ross put in a solid effort for the Axewomen as she was the teams point leader with a total of 16 points. Among these points, Ross had 13 kills and 10 digs.

The next game for the Dalhousie tigers will be at home against the Saint Mary's Huskies on Sunday November 6th. Game time is 2:30 pm.

The Axewomen head home to take on the UNB Varsity Reds on November fourth. The game will begin at 7 pm.
