Tiger take down Huskies

(Halifax, NS) - The Saint Mary's Huskies went 1-1 on Friday as co-hosts of the opening AUS volleyball tournament this weekend at Dalhousie and Saint Mary's.

In the opening match, the Dal Tigers defeated SMU 3-2.

The Huskies won the first set 25-23 and Dal won sets two and three 25-19 and 25-20.

SMU took the fourth 25-22, setting up the fifth and final set.

The Huskies jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before ties of 6-6, 10-10 and 11-11.

The Tigers outscored the Huskies 4-2 down the stretch, taking the set 15-13 and the match 3-2.

Dalhousie's Mieke DuMont (Kamloops, BC) had 15 kills, while teammate Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, NS) added 10 for the Tigers, who had 47 team kills and 99 digs.

Erin Smith (Moncton, NB) added 13 kills for Saint Mary's while Kristina Adler (Brampton, ON) had 11, as SMU totaled 47 team kills with 97 digs.
