BMO announced as title sponsor for 2024 U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship

U SPORTS and Dalhousie University are pleased to announce BMO as the title sponsor of the 2024 BMO U SPORTS Women's Soccer Championship from November 7-10, 2024, at F.B. Wickwire Memorial Field in Halifax.

“U SPORTS is thrilled to partner with Dalhousie and BMO to bring the U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship back to Halifax after a 28-year hiatus,” said Lisette Johnson-Stapley, Chief Sport Officer of U SPORTS. “We are delighted to have such an iconic partner join us to enhance the championship's profile. It makes a statement about BMO’s continued support of women’s sport.”

BMO has been The Bank of Soccer in Canada for nearly two decades, investing over $25 million to engage, develop and cultivate youth soccer at every level of competition across Canada. That investment has supported 250,000 youth athletes, helping eliminate barriers to inclusion and drive progress for equity in the sport.

Additionally, BMO has long-term partnerships with all three MLS soccer clubs in Canada – Toronto FC, CF Montreal, and Vancouver Whitecaps – and in the U.S. – LAFC and the NWSL’s Angel City FC, have created a widely known and enduring association between the sport of soccer and BMO. This past summer, BMO became an Official Supporter of FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 in North America.

“As The Bank of Soccer, we are committed to growing the game in North America and are excited to support bringing the best student-athletes from across Canada to Halifax,” said Justin Scully, Regional President, Greater Ontario & Atlantic Region, BMO. “This partnership aligns with BMO’s Purpose to Boldly Grow the Good in business and life and we are looking forward to cheering on all the participants at the 2024 U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship.”

The 2024 BMO U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship returns to Dalhousie University for the second time. The Tigers boast extensive championship experience, having previously hosted 18 national events, most recently the 2022 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships. The Tigers women’s soccer team has made 13 championship appearances since 1984, with six podium finishes (three gold, two silver and one bronze). Their most recent showing was in 2012.

“We are excited to partner with BMO on the 2024 U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship in what will be a meaningful event for our campus and community,” says Tim Maloney, Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation at Dalhousie University. “Our shared vision for what this event will mean for our student-athletes, the broader community, and the advancement of women’s sport are perfectly aligned, which provides this partnership with an important foundation.”

All championship games will be contested on the recently resurfaced F.B. Wickwire Memorial Field, which has a capacity of 1500. The venue is home to Dalhousie Tiger varsity programs and local amateur sports associations.
