Tigers fall to Capers 1-0
The Capers beat the Tigers 1-0 at Wickwire field on Friday.
The Dalhousie Tigers (4-3-3) faced the Cape Breton Capers (8-0-2) at a filled Wickwire Field.
The first half was closely contested. The Tigers and Capers traded possession frequently as both teams struggled to initiate offence.
At the ten-minute mark, CBU's Lauren Rowe's (Conception Bay South, NL) ball rolled past the keeper to score the opening goal. The assist was a perfectly placed through ball from CBU's Grace Hannaford (Enfield, NS).
The Capers controlled possession for the majority of the first half. The Tigers couldn't generate any offence, only getting one shot on goal during the half. The Capers had three shots on goal.
The Tigers didn't diversify their attack, solely playing through the right side of the field.
Dalhousie's defence kept the match close. Two great blocks from Paris Axam (Ottawa, ON) and Hannah Firstbrook (Nepean, ON) made the difference.
The second half was mostly played in the midfield. Both teams possessed the ball, but neither team developed an imminent attacking threat.
The Capers nearly scored off a header from a corner kick, but Dal's Brianne MacDonald (Chelsea, QC) made the crucial save.
The Tigers started pressuring the Capers in the ladder minutes of the game. In the 84' minute, Dalhousie's Taylor Heard (Ottawa, ON) had the best chance of the game for the Tigers, but CBU's Ellie Lancaster (Fall River, NS) made the diving save.
The Tigers couldn't score the equalizer, leaving Rowe's opening goal as the game-winner. Rowe was selected as the player of the game with the decisive goal.
