Dalhousie Tigers women’s soccer head coach Cindy Tye is pleased to announce the commitment of Maya Watchman for the 2024-25 season.

An Edmonton, Alberta native, Watchman plays for Edmonton Scottish United in League1 Alberta and this past winter played for their futsal team in the Edmonton Futsal League. Previously the midfielder played for Edmonton Scottish United’s youth teams in the Alberta Youth Soccer League and the Edmonton Minor Soccer Association. Watchman was named the Jasper Place High School Outdoor Sr. Women’s soccer team MVP for the 2022-23 season.

Watchman will be joining her brother and men’s volleyball player Thomas at Dalhousie.

“I am super excited to attend Dalhousie and play for the Tigers,” says Watchman. “It seems like a great athletic community within a great university. I am looking forward to learning as much as I can as a player in a positive and competitive environment.”

A multi-year member of the honour roll at Jasper Place High School, Watchman will be studying science at Dalhousie.

Maya will be coming to us from Edmonton Scottish and the League One Scottish United team. A midfielder with a defensive mindset,

“Maya has strong technical skills and can help keep us in possession and create in the attack,” says Tye. “The competitiveness and leadership she has shown in her club and school environments will no doubt add to our program. We are excited to welcome Maya to the Tigers!”

The Tigers look to improve on their fourth place finish last season on the way to hosting the 2024 U SPORTS women’s soccer championship this November.
