(Halifax, N.S.) – Dalhousie University women’s soccer head coach Cindy Tye is pleased to announce the commitment of two more local players to the 2017-18 lineup.

Alyssa Hartlen and Sara Pitman join the Tigers after impressive club and provincial team careers. Both Hartlen and Pitman are current players for Suburban FC, the Nova Scotia provincial team, and the Nova Scotia Canada Games squad.

Hartlen has been a member of Suburban FC since 2013, leading the team in scoring in the 2014 and 2016 winter seasons. The 5’3 striker helped lead her team to the 2015 provincial title which earned them a spot in the Sportchek Club National Championships in Surrey, B.C.

To go along with her strong club career, Hartlen has been a member of the Nova Scotia Provincial team since 2012 and has won three Atlantic championship titles from 2014-17.

“I am very excited about meeting new teammates and being around a positive atmosphere,” says Hartlen. “The Dalhousie Tigers are building a strong team with the help of Coach Tye and I’m just glad I get to be a part of that. I look forward to being a part of the Dalhousie community.”

A native of Dartmouth, N.S., Hartlen has been accepted into Dalhousie’s science program and will be pursuing a degree in human genetics.

“Alyssa is a natural goal-scorer whose versatility allows her to play wide or centrally,” says Tye. “She has an ability to take players on and has great vision in the attacking third.”

Joining Hartlen is full back Sara Pitman. A member of Suburban FC since 2013, Pitman was a member of the 2015 provincial championship winning team that finished fifth at the club nationals in Surrey, B.C.

Pitman has also been a member of the Nova Scotia provincial team since 2014, leading them to Atlantic championship gold medals all three years of her career.

“I am very excited to join the team and become a Tiger,” says Pitman. “I can’t wait for the season to start and I am looking forward to getting to know all the girls.”

The Bedford, N.S. native will graduate high school in June and will be pursuing a Bachelor of Arts while attending Dalhousie.

“Sara is a steady defender who can play in a couple of positions,” says Tye. “Being a product of a strong Suburban club and provincial program has given her experience in different competitions. Her anticipation and power will help to strengthen our defensive third.”
