Moncton Aigles Bleues defeated the Dalhousie Tigers with a final score of 4-0 on Friday in Moncton in game one of the Bell AUS playoffs.
The first period between Dalhousie and Moncton began with Moncton controlling the majority of the faceoffs, including several by Elodie St-Jacques. Dalhousie's goalie, Grace Beer, was active, making multiple saves as Moncton took a series of missed shots, including attempts by Amelie Vachon and Shani Rossignol. Gabrielle Noordijk of Dalhousie incurred two penalties, resulting in power play opportunities for Moncton, though Dalhousie successfully killed both penalties without conceding a goal. Moncton scored the period's only goal at 15:15, with Emilie Comeau finding the net assisted by Valerie Hache and Erica Plourde. The period concluded with Moncton leading 1-0.
The second period began with Moncton winning consecutive faceoffs against Dalhousie, setting the tone early. At 2:34, Moncton's Shani Rossignol received a two-minute penalty for body checking, but Dalhousie was unable to capitalize on the resulting power play. Moncton extended their lead at 6:30 when Maritza Labrie scored, assisted by Amelie Vachon. Avery Holmes was the most active shooter with four shots on goal.
The Tigers and Aigles Bleues return to the ice on Sunday at 7pm at the Halifax Forum for the second game in the best-of-three series.
