Tommies Edge Tigers 1-0
Grace Beer made 28 saves in the Tigers loss to the Tommies on Saturday.
Fredericton, NB - STU Tommies notched another home victory, edging out the Dalhousie Tigers 1-0 in a close match, following their win over the Huskies yesterday. Both teams fought hard for the win, but an early strike proved to be the difference-maker.
Ekaterina Pelowich opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the game, capitalizing on a quick attack assisted by Nadia Lavoie and Trinity Webber. The Tommies dominated the first period, firing 13 shots on target while limiting the Tigers to just four. Despite their early lead, the Tigers were held in check, and the Tommies had the upper hand throughout the opening frame.
Dalhousie responded with a stronger second period, consistently applying pressure, but Tommies goaltender Chloe Marshall was impenetrable, denying every attempt. The Tigers kept pushing, but Marshall's performance between the pipes kept the visitors off the scoreboard.
In the third period, the Tommies found themselves under heavy defensive pressure as the Tigers threw everything they had in search of an equalizer. However, Marshall once again rose to the occasion, making key saves to preserve the shutout. On the other end, Tigers goaltender Grace Beer stood tall as well, keeping her team in the game with clutch stops, earning both goalies well-deserved recognition as the game's three stars.
With this win, the Tommies secured their third victory in a row, moving up to 3rd place in the standings, while the Tigers dropped to 4th. Next up, Friday Oct 25th Dalhousie will face the Saint Mary's Huskies, and the Tommies will look to extend their winning streak when they take on Mount Allison.
