The Dalhousie Tigers defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 5-2 at the Halifax Forum on Saturday.
The first period was closely contested. Both teams had multiple scoring opportunities.
After a Tigers defensive turnover, Mount Allison's Mollie Grabe (Carleton Place, ON) capitalized on a wide-open shot to open the scoring.
The Tigers evened the score when Abby Wamboldt (Hammonds Plains, NS) scored a beautiful bar-down wrist shot at a sharp angle.
The Tigers were in control throughout the second period. Dalhousie's Natasha Falk (Brandon, MB) scored the Tiger's second goal with a shot deflected into the net by a Mounties defender.
Dalhousie extended the lead on the powerplay with a beautifully curated goal scored by Mollie Power (Bay Roberts, NL).
The Tigers composure defensively and with the puck made the difference in the second period. The Mounties accumulated five penalties going into the third, the Tigers committed one.
Four minutes into the third period Dalhousie's Abby Larkin (Mermaid, PE) scored a stellar goal to put the Tigers up 4-1. Larkin picked up the puck at the halfway line then weaved around multiple defenders on her way to notching the Tiger's fourth goal.
Mount Allison's Dallis MacKenzie (Darlings Island, NB) scored on the powerplay, cutting the lead to two.
One minute later, Dalhousie's Jill Imerson (Perth, ON) scored a backhand goal as a finishing touch to a dominant performance for the Tigers.
Larkin was awarded Player of the Game with a highlight goal and two assists.
The Tigers head to Charlottetown on Friday to battle UPEI. The Mounties continue on the road next weekend , traveling to Moncton on Friday to face the Aigles Bleues.
