Dalhousie scored four goals in the third period to secure a 5-2 victory and their first win of the season.
The first period was physical, with Dalhousie heading to the box twice and Moncton three times. Neither team were able to capitalize during their respective powerplays.
In the second period, Dalhousie's Avery Holmes (Mississauga, ON) scored the opening goal and the first goal for the Tigers this season. Leah MacSween (Belfountain, ON) took a shot on net, and the puck slipped by Moncton's goalie Annick Boudreau (Memramcook, NB), leaving the puck loose in the crease for Holmes to put it away.
Dalhousie's goal seemed to wake up Moncton. Moncton possessed the puck for the majority of the second period after the opening goal and recording a total of eighteen shots, to Dalhousie's five in the second period.
Thirty-eight seconds into the third period, Dalhousie's Emma Bishop (Dieppe, NB) scored an unassisted goal for the Tigers off a Moncton turnover to double the Tigers lead.
Dalhousie went on the power play for the fourth time early in the third and they were able to capitalize. Gabrielle Noordijk (Oakville, ON) scored the long-range wrist shot, assisted by MacSween.
The Tigers extended their lead when Regan Duffy (Burlington, ON) found the back of the net to make it 4-0.
The Aigles Bleues were able to respond quickly with their first goal of the game. Moncton's Lianne Desforges (Clarence-Rockland, ON) was able to score on the fastbreak, taking away Grace Beer's (Oakville, ON) shutout.
Moncton didn't let off the gas, scoring a second goal with six minutes remaining. Moncton's, Valerie Hache (Shippagan, NB) cut the Tigers lead in half.
The Tigers sealed the win when Jill Imerson (Perth, ON) scored an empty net goal.
Dalhousie achieved their first win of the season in a dominant 5-2 performance over Moncton. Duffy was named player of the game with an assist and goal in the third period.
The Tigers return to action at an away game against StFX on Wednesday 9th, 2024 at 7:00 pm ADT.
