House named new women's hockey head coach

The Dalhousie Tigers are pleased to announce the hiring of Keifer House as our new women’s hockey head coach.

A Dalhousie University alumnus, House played for the men’s hockey team from 1991-1996, earning multiple awards including team MVP and AUS all-star selections. Prior to his time at Dalhousie, he played for the Laval Titan in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Since graduating from Dalhousie, House was an assistant coach with the men’s team and instructor at the university, the director of athletic programs and hockey coach at Newbridge Academy, and the owner of Top Shelf Hockey Program. For the last two seasons, House has been the assistant coach on the Tigers women’s hockey team under former head coach Troy Ryan and stepped in as interim head coach upon Ryan’s departure this past fall.

“It is truly an honor to be named head coach of the women’s hockey program,” says House. “I’m excited for the opportunity to build on the progress made under Troy’s guidance the last few years.”

The Tigers went 13-15 this season under interim head coach House, before falling to the Saint Mary’s Huskies in the quarter-finals of the AUS playoffs. The team will have a different look next year with 10 players graduating at the end of the 2023-24 season.

“We are excited about the incoming recruiting class and look forward to the continued development of our returning players,” says House. “The road ahead is a challenging one but I’m excited to see how our group responds to the challenge of continuing the progress we have made.”

Executive Director Tim Maloney is excited to be adding a committed Dalhousie alumnus to the Tigers coaching roster.

“We are thrilled to add Keifer to our coaching staff,” says Maloney. “His commitment to the women’s hockey program and Dalhousie was evident throughout this past season.”

The Tigers will now turn their attention to the 2024-25 season this fall including announcing several new recruits over the coming weeks.
