Tommies shutout Tigers

In a tightly contested battle at the Grant Harvey Centre, the St. Thomas Tommies women's hockey team obtained their second win in a row against a resilient DAL Tigers. This second home game of the season turned into a nail-biter, showcasing both teams' sheer determination and skill. 

Right from the opening minutes, the Tommies signaled their intent with a lightning-fast goal by Ekaterina Pelowich, setting the tone for the match. The intensity soared in the second period as the Tommies launched back-to-back attacks, testing the Tigers' defense at every turn. However, DAL proved to be a tough opponent, matching St. Thomas' aggression. 

Tension filled the arena as the clock wound down in the third period. With just four minutes remaining, the Tommies found their breakthrough, courtesy of a goal from Claire Nimegeers. The crowd cheered as St. Thomas secured their second consecutive win.  

Lauren Smith, a standout forward for the Tommies, reflected on the match, stating, "It was a really strong game, definitely a team we wanted to beat. We put ourselves out there early, and overall, it was a strong performance by our group."  

Tigers goalie Grace Beer turned away 35 of the 37 shots she faced, earning the Tigers player of the game honours. Katie Sweeney in the Tommies net, earned a shutout and the first star. 

STU Tommies are gearing up for their upcoming challenge against StFX. Smith emphasized the importance of maintaining the same energy and focus for the next game, recognizing its significance in the season. "We need to bring the same energy for the next game; it's an important match, and we are determined to keep the winning streak alive," Smith commented. 

The Tommies return to home ice on Saturday night when they host the STFX X-Women. The Tigers head to Moncton to battle the Aigles Bleues on Saturday.
