Mounties Get Their First Win of the Season Over Tigers

Mounties Get Their First Win of the Season Over Tigers

The Mount Allison women's hockey team beat Dalhousie 1-0 on November 12, at the Halifax Forum.

The game was an intense defensive battle featuring some impressive goaltending. In the first period, Tigers goalie Maggie Baxter (Mahone Bay, NS) faced 13 shots and managed to turn them all away, while Mount Allison's Bianca Zak (Stonewall, MB) did her part to keep the game scoreless entering the first intermission.

Mount Allison finally managed to break the tie when Sydney Stotski (Oakbank, MB) scored late in the second period off of an assist by Dallis Mackenzie (Trenton, ON). It was Stotski's first goal of the season and gave the Mounties some hope that they might pick up their first win of the season, as they entered the third period.

Zak continued her excellent play in the third period, including a stretch late in the game when the Tigers pulled their goalie where she turned away a handful of shots in rapid succession to secure the win for the Mounties. In a night when Dalhousie couldn't get it going offensively credit goes to the Mounties for staying ready and seizing an opportunity for their first win of the year.

Zak earned Subway player of the game honours for Mount A after her 36 save shutout propelled the Mounties to victory.

Mount Allison moves to 1-11 on the season while Dalhousie drops to 6-3-1-1.

The Mounties will have a few days to gameplan for their next opponent, when they host the Aigles Bleus on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Dalhousie will have to refocus quickly, as they travel to  StFX tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. in a matchup between the AUS' second and third seeds.
