Fredericton, NB - The Dalhousie University Tigers completed an exciting third period comeback to defeat the St. Thomas University Tommies by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Grant-Harvey Centre.

STU went on the power play in the opening minutes of the game where Claire Nimegeers (Wilcox, SK) shoveled the puck into the Dalhousie net to give the Tommies an early 1-0 lead. STU would continue the first period scoring with an unassisted goal from Ekaterina Pelowich (Stoufville, ON) that deflected in off a Dalhousie defender.

Both goalies held their own in the second period, while the Tommies' preserved their 2-0 lead until the final minutes. Dalhousie's Katie Cameron (Riverview, NB) scored from the blue line making the score 2-1 going into the third.

Tommies' goalie Katie Sweeney (Tecumseh, ON) kept the score at 2-1 by stopping numerous scoring chances in tight including a Tigers' breakaway. At the midway point in the final period the Tigers would finally see one get past Sweeney when Abby Wamboldt (Hammonds Plains, NS) put her own rebound into a wide-open net to even up the score. Minutes after the game tying goal and late in the third period, Brooklyn Paisley (Shawinigan Lake, BC) put in the go-ahead goal for the Tigers. The Tommies' would get on their seventh total power play late in the final period with multiple chances to tie the game but Dalhousie stayed strong to complete the third period comeback.

Tommies' Head Coach Peter Murphy said he thought his team played alright.

"I thought the first period was alright, we did okay in that period. The second period [Dalhousie] started to out work us and the third period [Dalhousie] out worked us again," Murphy said. "To me that was the story of the game".

Paisley was named the Subway Player of the Game for her performance in the game.

The Tommies' look to bounce back on Oct. 21 when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies on their home ice at the Grant-Harvey Centre for these two teams first meeting of the 2022 regular season. The Tigers take on the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus the same day.
