The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues won their first game season with a 4-0 shutout over the Dalhousie Tigers in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey on Saturday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
Goaltender Annick Boudreau (Memramcook, NB) of the Aigles Bleues turned away all 30 shots sent in her direction to record the shutout. Erica Plourde (Pigeon-Hill, NB) opened the scoring for Moncton at the beginning of the first period to give her team a 1-0.
Lianne Desforges (Clarence-Rockland, ON) doubled Moncton's lead in the first minute of the second period and Plourde added a third, shorthanded goal six minutes later.
Elodie St-Jacques (St-Jerome, QC) sealed the win for Moncton with a fourth goal in the third period.
Although the Tigers outshot the Aigles Bleues 30-18 in the game, they could not find a way past Boudreau. Olivia Eustace (Riverview, NB) and Kennedy Wheelan (Alliston, ON) lead the charge for the Tigers with four shots each. The Tigers also could not convert on their six power plays of the evening, to Moncton's four. Rookie goaltender, Grace Beer (Oakville, ON) got her second start of the season, and stopped 14 of the 18 shots she faced.
Annick Boudreau earned the Subway Player of the Game for her shutout performance.
The Aigles Bleues are next in action on Friday night when they travel to Halifax for a rematch. The Tigers continue their New Brunswick road trip Sunday when the visit the St. Thomas Tommies. Puck drop is set for 3pm.
