Tommies win over Tigers 5-1

Fredericton, NB-The St. Thomas University Tommies defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 5-1 Sundayafternoon, bouncing back from yesterday's 3-1 loss to the UdeM Aigles Bleues.

Leading the way for the Tommies offensively was 4thyear defender Alex Woods Courtice, ON), who hada goal and four assists. Rookie goaltender Marandee Hunter (Chatham, ON) made 31 saves in the victory.

Tommies captain, Emily Oleksuk (Thunder Bay, ON), got the offense kickstarted on the power play whenshe corralled a loose puck and roofed it for her 3rdgoal of the season late in the first period.

It didn't take the Tigers long in the second period to even things up, as Alix Yallowega (Winnipeg, MB) evened things up on a powerplay.

From that point onitwas all Tommies as Erin Arsenault (Oakville, ON) would score and Danielle Ring(Saint John, NB) and Jacey Dane (Aurora, ON) both got their first goals of the season, the latter's beingthe first goal of her AUS career.

"We had a little more jump than we did last night," said Tommies head coach Peter Murphy about histeam's response after yesterday's loss. "Both Dal and Moncton, their games are going to become thatmuch more difficult to play because they are battling for that final playoff spot. The game meanssomething to us points wise too, but it might not be as critical."

With the win the Tommies move to 10-9-1 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 5-14-1. Next action forboth teams will see the Tommies at the Aitken Centre in Fredericton on Wednesday, January 15thforthis season's final installment of the "Battle of the Hill", and the Tigers will host the Mount Allison University Mounties on Saturday, January 18th.
