Huskies drop Tigers 4-1

(Halifax, N.S.) - The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 4-1 in AUS women's hockey action Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena. 

Both teams went scoreless in the first period despite fast paced action and lots of chances on both sides.

The second period saw much of the same with no goals for either team, but plenty of excitement and scoring opportunities for both teams.

In the third, the deadlock was finally broken when Mary Worndl (Kitchener, ON) scored on a 2 on 1 at 4:01 to make it 1-0. Dalhousie answered when Elizabeth MacArthur (Truro, NS) tallied on a tip-in of a point shot on the powerplay at 8:27 to tie it up at 1-1. The Huskies retook the lead when Caitlyn Manning (Cambridge, ON) tipped in a point shot at 11:48 to make it 2-1. Saint Mary's extended their lead when Subway player of the game Breanna Lanceleve (Middle Sackville, NS) potted a marker offa wild scramble at 17:27 on the powerplay to make the score 3-1. The Huskies added some insurance when Manning, who also got an assist, got her second of the game with an empty netter at 19:45 to seal the win.

The Huskies outshot the Tigers 29-17. Justine McIntosh (East St. Paul, MA) made 16 saves to get the win for the Huskies. Jessica Severeyns (Hammonds Plains, NS) stopped 25 shots in goal for the Tigers.

Both teams are back in action this Saturday at home. The Huskies play the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues at 2:00 pm and the Tigers play the St. Thomas Tommies at 6:30.
