Tigers lose close one to Huskies

(Halifax, NS) In their season home opener, the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 2-1 in AUS women's hockey action Wednesday night at Alumni Arena.

The Huskies got on the board first when Subway player of the game Breanna Lanceleve (Middle Sackville, NS) tallied from the slot at 3:55 to give Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead after the first period. The assist when to Laura Polak (Bedford, NS). 

In the second period, the Huskies struck again when Lanceleve got her second of the night from in close at 3:53 to extend the lead to 2-0. Haylee Tretiak (Teulon, MB) got awarded an assist. 

Dalhousie got one back immediately when Jesse Rietveld (Pelham, ON) potted a marker from in close as well at 4:27 to cut the lead to 2-1 after 40 minutes. Sarah Robichaud (Weymouth, NS) got the assist on the goal on the only Tigers goal.

That would turn out to be all Saint Mary's needed as there was no scoring in the third period.

The Huskies outshot the Tiger 48-28. Rebecca Clark (Keswick, ON) made 27 saves to get the win in net for the Huskies. Mati Barrett (Stittsville, ON) stopped 46 shots in net for the Tigers.

Both teams are back in action this Saturday. The Huskies host the Saint Francis Xavier X-Women at 2:00 pm and the Tigers visit the Mount Allison Mounties at 6:15 pm.
