WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Acadia Axewomen improved to 6-2 and captured a 4-point game win against the visiting Dalhousie Tigers 84-51 on Saturday night.  

The Axewomen had a dominating first quarter over a Dalhousie team that could not connect. Acadia rallied together 23 points while the Tigers only had nine.  

Acadia shot well in the first, making 10 of their 23 (43.5%) attempts from the field. Haley McDonald (Port Williams, N.S.) lead all players with 8 points.  

The Axewomen continued to lead throughout the second quarter, outshooting the Tigers from the field and from three. Acadia also capitalized off Dalhousie's numerous turnovers.  

The Axewomen held a 44-26 advantage into the intermission. McDonald finished the half with 10 points to lead all players.  

Acadia opened third quarter with three straight three-pointers and incredible defensive play, shutting down the Tigers. With a 60-30 Acadia lead, it became clear that Dalhousie would not be coming back in this game.  

The Axewomen held a 69-32 lead after three quarters.  

Robertha Charles (Montréal, Que.) lead the Tigers after 30 minutes with 12 points, three rebounds, and one assist. She would finish the game with 16 points and be named her team's Player of the Game. Off the bench, Emily Holt (Halifax, N.S.) added 10 points and five rebounds. 

Acadia put the game away in the fourth quarter, tallying a final score of 84-51 for the win.   

Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, N.S.) finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Her impressive all-around performance had her recognized as Acadia's Subway Player of the Game. Haley McDonald (Port Williams, N.S.) added a game high 17 points.  

The Axewomen shot an exceptional 35/80 (43.8%) from the field and 9/22 (40.9%) from three on the game, while the Tigers fell short with a 25.4% field goal percentage.  

The Tigers play their next game at StFX on Wednesday night, while the Axewomen host the Memorial Sea-Hawks next Saturday and Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
