Mulligan leads Tigers in day two of track & field championships

The Tigers earned several top 10 finishes on day two of the U SPORTS Track and Field Championship in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Day two opened with Abbi Gaudry in the women's long jump. With a best jump of 4.93m, Gaudry finished in 13th place. Skeets Greene had a best jump of 6.77m to finish in sixth place on the men's side.

Blake Marchand had a best jump of 2.01m in the men's high jump to finish in seventh place. He was just centimetres off his personal best and a fifth place finish.

In women's shot put, Chelsea MacIsaac's best throw on the day of 12.96m locked her into sixth place, one centimetre behind fifth.

After her long jump session, Gaudry headed to the track for the women's 60m hurdles preliminary race. A time of 8.77 seconds was not enough to put her in the final for the event and she finished 12th overall.

In the preliminary race of the men's 300m, Matt Aftanas crossed the line with a time of 35.42 for 11th place overall.

Chloe Richardson crossed the line in 2:56.07 in the women's 1000m to finish in 12th place.

In her first race of the weekend, Waverley Mulligan finished just three hundredths of a second off the podium in the women's 3000m. She finished in fourth with a time of 9:37.36. Jacob Benoit finished in fifth in the men's 3000m with a time of 8:16.86.

The women's 4x800m relay team of Aidan MacDonald, Zoe Fullerton, Mulligan, and Richardson crossed the line in a time of 9:04.85 to finish in ninth place. On the men's side, the team of Lukas Rudaitis, Harmon Grimshaw-Surette, Dan Lord, and Aidan Goslett finished in seventh place with a time of 7:43.40.

The Tigers return to the track on Saturday at 12:30pm CT with the highlight of the day being Zach James racing for a medal as top qualifier in the men's 600m.
