Tigers show well in day one of U SPORTS Championship

Chelsea MacIsaac is the top Tiger after day one of the U SPORTS Track and Field Championship in Winnipeg, Manitoba hosted by the University of Manitoba.

In the women's weight throw, Chelsea MacIsaac had a best throw of 16.67m to finish in fourth place. Lily Spoozak finished in seventh place with a best throw of 16.32m.

Jojo Swankier was in 12th place after the preliminary races of the 60m sprint and did not qualify for a final. Chloe Richardson crossed the line in a time of 1:34.61 to finish in 11th in the women's 600m.

Zach James was the top qualifier in the men's 600m preliminary races, crossing the line in 1:18.19. He will race in the final on Saturday. Dan Lord finished in 10th in the 600m, just outside of the qualifiers for the final.

The women's 4x200m team of Lynn Sheppard, Ali Poisson, Jess Goodwin, and Zoe Fullarton crossed the line 1:45.23 to finish in 12th.

Abbi Gaudry recorded 3416 points and finished in eighth place in the women's pentathlon.

The Tigers return to the track on Friday. Gaudry is up first at 6pm AT in the 60m hurdles. Catch all the action on CBC Sports.
