Tigers defend AUS track and field titles

The Dalhousie Tigers successfully defended their men's and women's AUS track and field titles on Saturday at the Irving Oil Fieldhouse in Moncton. This is a record 35th straight conference title for the women and the 21st title in 22 years.

Several Tigers took home major awards in addition to the titles. Chloe Richardson was named the track athlete of the year and Chelsea MacIsaac was named the field athlete of the year. Abbi Gaudry and Dan Lord were named the championship meet MVP's. Blake Marchand was named the men's rookie of the year. Head Coach Rich Lehman was named the men's track and field coach of the year. Amelia Reid was named the track and field community service award winner.

On the track the Tigers started off on the right foot with Chloe Richardson winning her second gold medal of the weekend. She crossed the line in the 600m in a time of 1:33.14. Georgie Richardson finished in fourth.

It was a Tigers sweep of the men's 600m event. Dan Lord won the race in a time of 1:20.85, setting a new AUS record and beating teammates Lukas Rudaitis (second) and former record holder Zach James (third).

Jojo Swaniker returned the men's 60m title to Dalhousie, winning the race with a time of 6.94 seconds. Nick Beaulieu crossed the line in third. Lynn Sheppard finished second in the women's 60m race.

Waverley Mulligan added a second individual gold medal to her weekend total, winning the 1500m event.

The men's 4x400m relay team won the men's event. Racing for the Tigers was Matt Aftanas, Lukas Rudaitis, Zach James, and Dan Lord. The Tigers team of Cara MacDonald, Zoe Fullarton, Georgie Richardson, and Chloe Richardson finished second in the 4x400m.

In the field, the one-two punch of Chelsea MacIsaac and Lily Spoozak finished first and second in the women's weight throw. Simon Salah had a best throw of 14.03m to capture silver in the men's weight throw.

Tobi Oshikoya took home the men's triple jump gold medal and teammate Austin Conrad captured the bronze medal. Abbi Gaudry added to her medal haul with a gold medal in the women's long jump. Hannah McGean won bronze.

Rounding out the day, Diego Marshall cleared the bar at 1.94m on his second attempt to finish second in the high jump. Ethan Dahr had a best jump of 1.80 for bronze.
