Richardson sets AUS record at day one of championship

The Dalhousie Tigers are off to a flying start at the 2023-24 AUS Track and Field Championships presented by Bell at the Irving Oil Fieldhouse.

Abbi Gaudry had a busy Friday, winning both the Pentathlon with a score of 3439 points and the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.80, after setting a new Dalhousie record of 8.73 in the preliminary race.

The distance runners led the Tigers through day one. Chloe Richardson set a new AUS record in the women's 1000m with a time of 2:52.32 to walk away with a gold medal. Lukas Rudaitis and Aidan Goslett crossed the line in second and third in the men's 1000m.

It was then a Tigers sweep of the 3000m titles. Waverley Mulligan fought off two STFX runners to easily capture the gold medal. Up next was Jacob Benoit who also had to fight off STFX runners to cross the line in first.

Rookie Maja Hussain won the women's triple jump with a best jump of 11.20m. It was a Tigers sweep of the men's long jump with Nick Beaulieu winning the event with a distance of 6.58m

Chelsea MacIsaac upgraded her silver medal from 2023 in the women's shot put, winning this year's event with a throw of 12.83m

The women's 4x800 relay team of Zoe Fullerton, Aidan MacDonald, Waverley Mulligan, and Richardson lowered the AUS record time the Tigers set last year to 9:17.48.
