Spoozak and Greene lead Tigers in Saint John

The Tigers track and field team was in Saint John on Friday and Saturday to compete at the UNB Invitational.

In the field, Chelsea MacIsaac won the shot put event with a best throw of 12.41m. Fellow Tiger Lily Spoozak finished in second with a throw of 11.22m. On the men's side, Rylan Murphy recorded a best throw of 13.66m for second place. First-year Maja Husain won the triple jump, covering a distance of 11.33m. Tobi Oshikoya finished first on the men's side with a jump of 14.32m. Austin Conrad finished in third.

The Tigers swept the women's high jump. Samantha Henneberry cleared the bar clean at 1.55m followed by Georgia Scott who cleared on her second attempt. Amelia Reid finished third. It was also a Tigers sweep on the men's side. Marchand cleared the bar at 1.95m followed by Diego Marshall and Ethan Dahr. Husain added to her meet titles, winning the long jump with a distance of 5.22m. Hannah McGean finished second. Skeets Greene jumped a personal best distance to win the long jump. Josh Hutchinson and Austin Conrad finished in second and third.

Spoozak recorded a personal best in the women's weight throw with a big 16.37m toss. MacIsaac placed second with a distance of 15.27m.

It was almost Tigers sweep in the men's 3000m. Jacob Benoit won the race followed by Nick Robertson in second and Alex Rogers in fourth. Tigers won both the men's and women's 600m races with Cara MacDonald crossing the line in a time of 1:38.20 and Dan Lord checking in a time of 1:20.75. He followed that up with a second place finish in the 300m race.

The Tigers compete next at the SMU Open on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax, the last meet before the AUS championship on Feb. 23.
