Murphy commits to Tigers for 2023-24

Dalhousie Tigers track and field head coach Rich Lehman is pleased to announce the commitment of Rylan Murphy for the 2023-24 season.

Hailing from Bedford, Nova Scotia, Murphy competes for HaliFast Athletics and Charles P. Allen High School in shot put. In 2022 he won a silver medal at the Legion Canadian Track and Field Championship for Team Nova Scotia/Nunavut with a throw of 15.65m. Murphy also won the shot put event at the 2022 Nova Scotia Track and Field and the 2022 Atlantic Track and Field Championships in the 16-17 age category. Earlier this spring, he was named the Athletics Nova Scotia U18 male athlete of the year for the second-straight year.

The 6’4 Charles P. Allen student finished second in the shot put at both the 2022 and 2023 editions of the School Sport Nova Scotia Track and Field Championship.

“I am very excited to further my academic and athletic career at Dalhousie,” says Murphy. “I am eager to show everyone what I can do in the classroom and on the field.”

Murphy will be studying recreation therapy at Dalhousie.

“Rylan is one of the best high school throwers in Nova Scotia He'll be a huge addition to our throws group and will be competing for AUS medals immediately,” says Lehman.
