(Truro, NS) – As the final section of the Athletics Nova Scotia Indoor Open, the throwers from universities across the province traveled to Truro looking for some big marks in both shot put and weight throw.

The competition got off to a fantastic start for the Tigers, with shot putter Andre Hendricks tossing a huge personal best of 14.16m, followed up by another best of 14.29m for his best of the meet. The throw was good enough to currently rank Hendricks first in the AUS conference, and 12th in the country in the event.

Finishing behind Hendricks in the event were Bradley Wood of StFX with a best of 13.21m, and fellow Tiger Kirk Jessome with a throw of 12.25m.

In the women's section of the event it was once again a Tiger thrower who was able to secure the win. First-year Brooklynn Rutherford launched a new personal best of 10.62m to win the event by over 1.5m. The throw moves her into the top 20 throwers in the country, with plenty more in the tank.

In the final event of the meet, the throws moved to weight throw.

On the men's side, Bradley Wood was able to connect on a fantastic personal best throw of 14.49m to take the win at the meet and move him into 14th place in the country. Finishing behind him was Kirk Jessome with a toss of 13.25m.

For the women, the Tigers collected another event win with Temi Toba-Oluboka throwing a new best of 11.85m.

Hendricks, Jessome and Rutherford will look to continue to improve their distances this weekend when the Tigers travel to Montreal to take part in the McGill Team Challenge.
