TIgers lead after day one of Kemp-Fry
Both the men's and women's swimming teams are leading after day one of the Kemp-Fry Invitational.
The Dalhousie Tigers lead in both the men's and women's events after day one at the 2024 Kemp-Fry Invitational meet at Dalplex.
The evening's events started with the men's 1500m freestyle finals. It was the first Dalhousie podium sweep of the evening with Morgan Sparkes touching in first, followed by Yannick Morgans and Logan Sparkes. All three athletes were under the U SPORTS qualifying standard.
In the women's 800m freestyle, Tigers Ella Dobson and Alexia Morgans went one-two followed by Acadia's Anna Whittaker in third.
The rest of the individual races in this evening session were preliminary races. In the 50m fly Acadia's Sophie Rooney qualified first with a time of 27.96 seconds, under the U SPORTS qualifying time. On the men's side, Memorial's Chris Weeks touched the wall in a time of 23.55 seconds to be the top qualifier and lowered his AUS record in this event. Acadia's Marcus Vaillancourt touched in second best with a time of 24.68 seconds. Both were under the standard.
Acadia's Rooney was also the top qualifier in the women's 50m backstroke with a time of 29.66. Tigers Liam Ferguson and Quinn Nolan went 1-2 in qualifying on the men's side. Both were under the U SPORTS standard.
Ella Collins of Acadia touched the wall in a time of 32.63 in the women's 50m breaststroke, under the standard and as top qualifier. UNB's Blake Kingston was the top qualifier on the men's side.
The evening session wrapped up with the ever popular relays. The Tigers won the women's 4x200m freestyle relay with a time of 8:21.26, qualifying for U SPORTS. Acadia finished second followed by Memorial in third.
On the men's side it was a battle right to the wall between Dalhousie and Acadia, with Axemen out touching the Tigers by hundredths of a second. Memorial finished in third.
