Mascoll-Gomes leads Tigers in day one of U SPORTS swimming

The Dalhousie Tigers qualified for several final races in day one of the U SPORTS Swimming Championship in Pointe Claire, Quebec on Thursday.

The day opened with Reagan Crowell diving into the water in the women's 200m freestyle. Touching the wall in a time of 2:03.58, Crowell qualified for the C Final on Thursday night.

Up next was Noah Mascoll-Gomes in the men's 200m free. Noah was the top Tiger on Thursday, qualifying for the A Final as seventh seed with a time of 1:48.69.

Kate Tuck swam her first race of the day in the 100m breaststroke. She qualified for the C Final with a time of 1:12.46.

Veronica Hollick touched the wall in a time of 1:06.13 in the women's 100m butterfly to finish 34th overall. Frederick Chandler-Baas finished in 33rd overall in the men's 100m butterfly with a time of 56.20 seconds.

Hollick's second race of the day was the 50m backstroke. Touching in with a time of 31.17 seconds, she finished in 38th overall. Liam Ferguson qualified for the C Final on the men's side, with a preliminary time of 25.82 seconds.

In the women's 400m IM, Emilie Schofield qualified for the C Final with a time of 4:57.32. She is joined by fellow teammate Tuck, who touched with a time of 4:57.64.

Rounding out the preliminary races on Thursday was Morgan Sparkes and Yannick Morgans in the men's 400m IM. Sparkes finished in a time of 4:30.18 for 28th overall followed by Morgans in 34th with a time of 4:48.45.

The finals for day one took place on Thursday evening. Crowell could not improve on her time in the morning in the 200m free and finished in 21st with a time of 2:08.07. Mascoll-Gomes was the top Tiger in the pool on day one, finishing in 5th place with a time of 1:53.71.

Tuck finished the 100m breast in 24th overall and the 400m IM in 20th overall. Schofield was four places higher in the IM, finishing in 17th overall.

In the 50m backstroke C Final, Ferguson finished the race in 20th place overall with a time of 27.51.

Wrapping up the day's events were the 4x100m relays. On the women's side, the team of Crowell, Schofield, Tuck, and Hollick touched in the wall in a time of 4:02.75 for 12th place. On the men's side, the team of Mascoll-Gomes, Logan Sparkes, Ferguson and Chandler-Baas touched the wall in 14th overall with a time of 3:36.33.
