Dalhousie swimmers continue to shine at AUS event

Dalhousie swimmers found themselves atop of the podium in 10 of the 14 events at the end of day two of the 2022 Subway AUS Swimming Championships presented Bell. Acadia won two events, while Memorial and UNB swam to victory in one apiece.  

Dalhousie's Martine Nyhof found the top of the podium in the first final of the night, winning the 100m backstroke. Acadia's Jessica Pelletier was second, followed by Memorial's Kate Williams. 

The Tigers Christian Payne followed Nyhof's lead, taking first place in the men's 100m backstroke with a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 55.17. Teammate Liam Ferguson was closed behind in second, followed Acadia's Dean Sangster in third. 

Veronica Hollick posted a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 27.77 in the 50m butterfly on her way to winning Dalhousie's third medal of the night. Acadia's Kassidy Hamilton and Aideen Nelson followed in second and third, respectively. 

Current AUS record-holder Shane Kenny won the men's 50m butterfly with a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 24.21 to earn Acadia's first gold of the night. Dalhousie's Liam Ferguson and Christian Payne were second and third, respectively. 

Dalhousie's Reagan Crowell led a podium-sweep of the 400m freestyle with a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 4:16.86. Abbey Nichols and Amelia Lane followed in second and third. 

Logan Sparkes (DAL) won the 400m Freestyle with Memorial's Matthew Whelan following in second and fellow Tiger Hayden Woodrow in third. 

Victoria MacDonald won Dalhousie's fourth-straight women's gold medal taking top spot in the 200m breaststroke. UNB's Casey Sophie placed second followed by Acadia's Kali Lancaster. 

Dalhousie's Adam Bouma won the men's 200m breaststroke. Acadia's Gordon Shortt placed second, followed by the Tigers Gregor Deveau

UNB's Jennifer Moore claimed gold in the 50m freestyle, edging Dalhousie's Martine Nyhof by seven one hundredths of a second. Both swimmers posted U SPORTS-qualifying times. Dal's Alexa Petrie was third. 

It was Acadia's Dean Sangster who was first to the wall in the men's 50m freestyle. Dalhousie's Noah Mascoll-Gomes was second followed by Mount Allison's Sebatian Cariaga. Both Sangster and Mascoll-Gomes posted U SPORTS-qualifying times in the race. 

Memorial's Heidi Perry earned the Sea-Hawks first gold of the evening, winning the women's 200m butterfly. Dalhousie's Chloe Paul-Chowdhury was second, followed by UNB's Sydney Bewsher. 

Mount Allison's Sarah Dessureault swam to victory in the women's 200m butterfly. Memorial's Keelin Tucker was second, followed by NB's Sydney Bewsher in third. 

Dalhousie's Frederick Chandler-Baas won the men's 200m butterfly with Acadia's Shane Kenny and Memorial's Reilly Swain following in second and third, respectively. 

The Dalhousie team of Abbey Nichols, Amelia Lane, Katie Berwick and Reagan Crowell swam to victory in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay. UNB's Jennifer Moore, Jessie Collett, Laren Goodine and Alexie Sanford were second, followed by Acadia's team of Kassidy Hamilton, Grace Earle, Elizabeth Morrison and Kali Lancaster. 

Dalhousie's Noah Mascoll-Gomes, Logan Sparkes, Ewan Maclean and Noah Brake won the men's 4x200m relay. The Acadia team of Bo Stokesbury-Price, Dean Sangster, Gordon Shortt and Marcus Vaillancourt were second, followed by Memorial's Ruben Rivero, Logan Palmer, Cormac Bull and Mathhew Whelan in third. 

At the end of the second day of competition, the team standings are as follows:
