Tigers leading Kemp-Fry Invitational after first day

The first day of the 2021 Kemp-Fry Invitational Swim Meet kicked off Friday night with timed long distance finals, 800m freestyle relays and 50m butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke heats. 

In the women's 800m freestyle, Dalhousie took the top four spots with Reagan Crowell leading the way with a time of 8:49.29. Abbey Nichols was second, posting a time of 9:14.53, with Amelia Lane and Mikhaela-Reign Johnson finishing in third and fourth respectively. Crowell posted a U SPORTS-qualifying time in the event. 

Dalhousie's Logan Sparkes won the men's 1500m freestyle, touching the wall in a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 15:42.35. The Tigers completed the sweep with Michael Smith finishing second with a time of 17:14.72 and Ryan Jardine close behind with a time of 17:14.72, good for third place. 

In the 50m butterfly heats, Dalhousie's Lauren Mosher, Veronica Hollick and Christian Payne all posted U SPORTS-qualifying times heading into tomorrow evenings finals, as did Acadia's Kenney Shane. 

Acadia's Jessica Pelletier posted the top time in the women's 50m backstroke heats while Payne posted a U SPORTS-qualifying time in the men's event. 

It was Dalhousie's Abbey Corish who posted the top time in the women's 50m breaststroke, a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 32.32. Teammate Adam Bouma also posted a national-qualifying time in the men's event touching the wall in a time of 28.89. 

The Dalhousie team of Martine Nyhof, Abbey Nichols, Emilie Schofield and Reagan Crowell won the women's 800m freestyle with a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 8:22.01. Memorial's Kate Williams, Heidi Perry, Lauryn Coady and Kathryn Stokes were second, followed by the Acadia team of Grace Earle, Elizabeth Morrison, Lia Lancaster and Kassidy Hamilton. 

Noah Mascoll-Gomes, Hayden Woodrow, Ewan Maclean and Logan Sparkes won the men's 800m freestyle relay for Dalhousie, followed by the Acadia team of Dan Sangster, Bo Stokesbury-Price, Gordon Shortt and Reilly Baker in second. Memorial's Ruben Rivero, Matty Whelan, Logan Palmer and Sam Pennell were third.
