Dal, McGill leading 2019 Kemp-Fry Invitational

On the first day of Dalhousie's 2019 Kemp-Fry Invitational Swim Meet, 10 swimmers/relay teams met U SPORTS championship qualifying times. 

The evening session featured four finals, with McGill claiming victory in three of the four. 

The women's 800m freestyle was won by McGill's Gabriella Doueihy with a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 8:51.81. She was followed by Dalhousie's Reagan Crowell and Imani Theodore who finished in second and third respectively. 

McGill's Johan Becker won the men's 1500m freestyle race with a time of 15:56.52. He was followed by Redmen teammate David Brenken in second with a time of 16:00.08. Dalhousie's Quinn West placed third in the event, touching in at 16:10.75. 

The Tigers team of Isabel Sarty, Reagan Crowell, Lise Cinq-Mars and Martine Nyhof won the 800m freestyle relay in a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 8:19.00. McGill took second and third place in the event. 

In the final event of the evening, the McGill team of Will Simpson, Clement Secchi, Kade Wist and David Brenken won the 800m men's freestyle relay with a U SPORTS qualifying time of 7:24.00. Acadia was second in the race, followed by Dalhousie in third. 

McGill had three more athletes post U SPORTS-qualifying times. Clement Secchi won his heat of the 50m butterfly and advance to the finals tomorrow night as did Daphne Danyluk and Samuel Lansinski in the 50m backstroke. 

Dalhousie's Christian Payne and Lise Cinq-Mars posted U SPORTS-qualifying times to advance to the 50m backstroke finals as did Abbey Corish in the 50m breaststroke. 

Dean Sangster was the lone Acadia swimmer to post a U SPORTS-qualifying time in the 50m backstroke. 

Day two of the Kemp-Fry Invitational starts tomorrow morning at 10:00am with the preliminaries followed by finals at 5:00pm. The finals will be broadcast on AUStv.ca.
