(Halifax, N.S.) – On the second day of Dalhousie's Kemp-Fry Invitational Swim Meet, Tigers swimmer Alec Karlsen set a new AUS record in the 400m IM breaking the record he sent at the same event last year by nearly three seconds. 16 swimmers met U SPORTS championship qualifying times during the preliminaries and finals.
Dalhousie's Alec Karlsen (400m IM), Tyler Immel-Herron (200m Backstroke), Lise Cinq-Mars (100m Butterfly) and Isabel Sarty (200m Freestyle) all posted U SPORTS qualifying times during the preliminary session earlier in the day. Morrgan Payne (50m Backstroke) and Claire Yurkovich (200m Backstroke) made their marks in the afternoon session.
The Tigers won 11 of the 16 events in the second session with Payne, Yurkovich, Karlsen, Cinq-Mars, Immel-Herron, Liam Branton, Sarty and Gavin Dyke touching the wall first in their respective races. Yurkovich won two individual events in the session and teamed up with Cinq-Mars, Sarty and Madeline Shivgulam to win the 400m freestyle relay. The team of Dyke, Sam Cusimano, Branton and Immel-Herron won the men's 400m freestyle relay.
Memorial's swimmers had three wins on the night, with Charli LeBlanc winning both the 50m backstroke and freestyle events in U SPORTS qualifying times. Jasmine Foran got the third win for the Sea-Hawks, taking the 100m breaststroke and hitting her U SPORTS mark.
Brett Liem won the 50m freestyle event in a U SPORTS qualifying time for Acadia, while fellow Axeman Adam Deutsch took top honours in the 100m breaststroke. Jessica Pelletier and Alison MacEachern placed second in the 50m backstroke and freestyle events, respectively, posting U SPORTS qualifying times. MacEachern had another fast U SPORTS qualifying swim, placing third in the 100m butterfly. Kelsea Vessey also qualified for the national championships placing second in the same race.
Olivia Feschuk was the lone U SPORTS qualifier for Mount Allison, placing second in the 200m backstroke.
Day three of the Kemp-Fry Invitational starts tomorrow morning at 10:00am with the preliminaries followed by finals at 4:30pm.
