Tigers off to great start at Kemp-Fry Invitational

(Halifax, N.S.) – On the first day of Dalhousie's Kemp-Fry Invitational Swim Meet, nine swimmers met U SPORTS championship qualifying times.

Claire Yurkovich, Lise Cinq-Mars, Gavin Dyke, Mackenzie Holden and Morrgan Payne all met their marks in their respective races, while Isabel Sarty set a U SPORTS qualifying time in the 200m freestyle in the first leg of the 800m freestyle relay.

The evening session featured four finals, with the Tigers claiming victory in all four. Yurkovich, Isabel Sarty and Meg Mackay swept the top three in the women's 800m freestyle event, while Dyke, Holden and Quinn West swept the men's 1500m freestyle. The team of Sarty, Cinq-Mars, Mackay and Yurkovich won the women's 800m freestyle relay, while Dyke, Tyler Immel-Herron, Alec Karlsen and Peter Inches won the men's 800m freestyle relay. 

Memorial's Charli LeBlanc and Jasmine Foran posted U SPORTS qualifying times in the women's 50m backstroke and breaststroke (respectively) preliminaries, advancing with the top times in each of their events. 

Acadia swimmer Alison MacEachern clocked the second-best time in the women's 50m butterfly event, with a U SPORTS qualifying time and led the 800m freestyle relay team to a second-place finish. 

Day two of the Kemp-Fry Invitational starts tomorrow morning at 10:00am with the preliminaries followed by finals at 5:00pm.
